As the two hospitals are much the same in size it will

be at once seen that in Singapore the Superintendent is much better

paid and has much less to do.

5. In view of my length of service, the length of time I have served without any increase of pay, the responsibility of my work and

my age I sincerely trust lie Excellency will be kind enough to recom-

-mend me for an increase of salary s0., as to bring my pay up to 86,000

a year.

I shall be deeply grateful for this as it will enable me to

put by a little extra against my retirement now within measurable dis-

-tance.

The Stonourable

I have etc.,

(Sd.) J. Bell,

Superintendent.

The Principal Civil medical officer.
